Dave Anderson was born in Chicago but grew up on an Indian reservation in Wisconsin. From a young age, he was surrounded by BBQ, learning most of his skills from his dad. His early years were spent searching for the best BBQ in the country. Through these adventures, he learned how to perfect BBQ. This led him to start Famous Dave’s in Hayward, Wisconsin, in 1994. The popularity of this restaurant, along with his numerous pitmaster awards, transformed Dave Anderson into the household name, Famous Dave.
Using his popularity to serve his community has always been one of his favorite pastimes. He served as Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs under the Bush administration and continues to educate the Native American community today. Dave’s passion for BBQ extends beyond the restaurant; he has written several cookbooks and helped create all of Famous Dave’s retail products. From ideation to product testing and formulations, Dave is involved in the product development process from the beginning. His experience allows us to lead all our products with quality and flavor that surpass any other BBQ around!
